Power vs. Force
It’s true. Many “successful” leaders manage from a place of force, resistance and a “black and white” mentality. When asked, however, how successful or satisfied they actually feel, a different picture often emerges. In the long term, leading by force instead of real power takes a toll: physically, mentally and emotionally. It can leave a leader feeling drained, frustrated and unfulfilled.
Paying attention to the core thoughts and emotions underlying our leadership decisions and the “knee-jerk” reactions we might cling to can help to uncover some of the fears driving our behavior, the particular lens that shapes our perspective and the blocks that might be holding us back.
Once we begin to take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings and responses, we are in a better position to perceive and create opportunity, and we become much more powerful. Suddenly, there is less "force" and more "flow."
